PHOTOSHOOT IDEAS AT HOME

Since being in quarantine during the pandemic I’ve been feeling inspired to create content at home and have come up with so many fun ideas! I’ve really enjoyed my time at home, spending more time with Ryan, learning new skills such as taking beginners and advanced photoshop courses which I’m really enjoying. I definitely recommend it if you’re trying to learn photoshop or lightroom. They have many great courses to choose from and it’s 30 days money back if you don’t like the course.

We won’t be traveling for a while so why not spend time creating fun content for social media. Make use of your space and use props as much as you can, you will be surprised by how many great props you already have lying around your gorgeous home.

BIRTHDAY SHOOT

If you’re like me and had to enjoy your birthday at home. Find a location in your home that you really like and decorate the area with birthday props. You can use balloons, confetti, a happy birthday letter banner, streamers, string lights, flowers, birthday cake, and cupcakes. Don’t forget to put on a fun birthday outfit and a crown and start snapping away!

GAME NIGHT

Gather all your board games, playing cards, Jenga, Nintendo switch, and any other type of games you have lying around. Find a spacious area in your home to layout your games and cards to your liking! You can also add some finger foods and snacks to your set up.

DATE NIGHT/MOVIE NIGHT

Prepare a date night in with a movie, your favorite dinner, and a bottle of wine. Cozy up the living room next to tv with some blankets, pillows, candles, and string lights. Photoshop or use a mobile app (tutorial on my Instagram) to add your favorite movie to the tv screen!

HOTEL PHOTO SHOOT AT HOME

Miss being on vacation and staying at a luxury hotel? Turn your home into a mini staycation by creating your own hotel room right at home! Pick a favorite spot in your home with a nice view and start to set up your hotel room. I suggest your living room or bedroom for this one. You can use your favorite blanket and pillows to create your bed and add a suitcase packed with your favorite outfits. Once you’re all checked in, relax in a robe, and enjoy an in-room dining experience with your coffee and breakfast food. I think this is such a fun photoshoot at home.

BATHROOM PHOTOSHOOT

Create a spa experience in your bathroom and pamper yourself! You can prepare your tub with a milk bath, bath bomb, bath salts or bath oils, and add flowers. Use a bath caddy and add your favorite snack, a book or magazine, some flowers for decoration, and your favorite glass of wine! For a finishing touch, add a few candles around the bathtub for a relaxing ambiance.

PORTRAITS

I’ve been creating a lot more portraits at home and have come up with so many fun ideas! Pick a blank wall or hang a bedsheet from a wall to shoot from as your background. I purchased a backdrop with a colored background paper which is easier for me since I don’t have a lot of blank wall space in my apartment. All of my photo equipment is linked here.

  • Confetti/Sprinkles – you can place them on your tongue or lips
  • Flowers – you can place flowers in your hair, wear a flower crown, place flowers on your face or use flowers as a top
  • Fruits – have fun with fruits and you can use them to recreate different items and images. I recommend using lemons, oranges, watermelon, and bananas.
  • Blowing bubbles

WALL COLLAGE

Create a DIY backdrop using flowers, magazines, newspapers, etc. This is a super quick and easy way to make a fun background for your photos and can be created anywhere in your home. This is one of my favorite DIY home photoshoots especially since you end up with a nice wall decoration.

MIRROR PHOTOSHOOT

Mirror photos have become very popular lately and do not require too many props. You just need a mirror, add flowers, a drink in your hand, ice cream, or anything else you’d like to use as a prop. Have fun with it! I used flower crowns and flowers for my photoshoot.

ADDING MULTIPLE HANDS/PRODUCTS TO IMAGES

You can use any prop you’d like to create this shot such as drinks, foods, toys, shoes, books, etc. Then you’ll need to take a photo of yourself with the prop and then take an additional image of just your hand holding the item. To edit this image you will need either Photoshop or a fun easy mobile app. I have a tutorial in my highlights on Instagram under “Editing Tips”.

CLONE YOURSELF

Since being at home so much I decided to take multiple photos of myself doing a few activities around the livingroom. First I took a photo of myself on a tripod while I’m on my laptop, watching tv and on my phone. I used photoshop to layer myself into a photo but using the same technique with the mobile app is possible. A few other posing ideas: reading a book, eating a snack, playing a game, etc.

CLOSET/CLOTHING RACK

Use a clothing rack or your closet as a backdrop for this photo. Then dress up in your favorite outfit and shoot away!

KITCHEN PHOTOSHOOT

Turn your cooking and baking time into a fun photoshoot. If you don’t cook or bake, then you can also use your take-out meals as props!

  • Use a baking sheet with cookies
  • Eating cereal
  • Eating ice cream
  • A photo at the fridge
  • A photo of yourself cutting up fruits, lemons, oranges, and watermelons are fun to use and use lots of them!
  • A photo of yourself making a smoothie
  • A photo of yourself eating spaghetti
  • Delivery/take out

PLANTS

Are you a plant mom or just have a lot of plants? Gather all your plants in a specific area and try different angles. You can shoot through the plants, have them surrounding you, or have fun with them as I did! I’ve linked below all of my favorite real and faux plants.

LAUNDRY PHOTOSHOOT

Turn your laundry day into a photoshoot by using your laundry basket as a prop next to your laundry machine. You can also shoot while hanging up your clothes to dry on a clothing line.

ROOFTOP/BACKYARD

If you have an outdoor space such as a rooftop or your front yard/backyard you can create some fun outdoor photos!

  • Create a picnic
  • Sunbathing photo
  • Outdoor movie night
