BEST PLACES TO SEE CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN NEW YORK

What I love about New York is getting to experience all four seasons and one of my favorite times of year is when the Cherry Blossoms bloom in spring! If you’re in New York or looking to visit April to May is the perfect time to visit as the weather begins to get warmer and spring flowers bloom everywhere! Peak bloom does change each year so it’s hard to predict but the first blooms begin the first to the second week of April and the peak can last to early May. It depends on the area and trees may bloom at different times. I’ve rounded my favorite locations to see the best Cherry Blossoms in New York.

CENTRAL PARK

Central Park is the best place to see Cherry Blossoms, they bloom all over the park and it’s free! The park recently launched a tracker so definitely check the link to see where they’re blooming right now!

I’ve noticed Magnolia and white cherry blossoms usually bloom first and the pink cherry blossoms bloom a week or two after. Below are a few locations you must visit:

  • Cherry Hill
  • Pilgrim Hill
  • Engineers Gate on 90th St
  • East Side Reservoir 90th St
  • Bridle Path on 89th St next to the west side reservoir
  • Cedar Hill between 74th & 77th
  • Behind the Met Museum
  • The Obelisk for Magnolias
  • Bethesda Fountain for Magnolias

AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

While visiting Central Park, visit the American Museum of Natural History for beautiful Cherry Blossoms at the entrance right on 77th Street.

ROOSEVELT ISLAND

It was my first time visiting Roosevelt Island for cherry blossoms this year and it did not disappoint! It has amazing views of the city and a row of gorgeous cherry blossoms. If you want a fun experience, take the tram to Roosevelt Island! These typically bloom the first week or two in April.

MADISON SQUARE PARK

Madison Square Park peaks pretty late when it comes to the cherry blossoms but it’s beautiful! It has amazing big cherry blossom trees all over the park with views of the Flatiron Building. These usually bloom late so closer to May.

WEST VILLAGE

Head to West Village on 11th St and Waverly Pl for beautiful cherry blossom trees all along the streets. These are one of the first to bloom, so usually the first week of April.

WASHINGTON SQUARE PARK

I love Washington Square Park but it gets super busy! It has a few trees that bloom earlier and a few trees that tend to peak weeks later.

23RD ST STATION (N, R, W)

GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL

On Park Avenue, you can get a beautiful view of cherry blossoms and magnolias one on each side with Grand Central Terminal in the background! Around 38th St and Park Ave.

BROOKLYN BOTANIC GARDEN

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is one of the top two best places to see the cherry blossoms in my opinion! I went in 2019 and it was stunning!! Every year they host the Sakura Matsui, the annual cherry blossom festival which can get crowded but also really fun! Check the Cherry Bossom Map for live updates when they will peak! Tickets are $18 for adults.

LADUREE

Make reservations at Laduree SoHo for the outside garden patio! They have a stunning garden with cherry blossoms and it’ll make the perfect brunch spot with your friends. These usually peak around the third to last week of April.

EATALY FLATIRON SERRA BY BIRRERIA

Eataly’s rooftop restaurant Serra by Birreria has the most gorgeous decorations and each Spring the floral decorations are just beautiful.

ARISTON FLOWERS & CAFE

This is one of the prettiest cafes that also change their decorations seasonally. Ariston Flowers & Cafe is on 5th Ave, it’s a coffee shop inside a gorgeous flower shop. You’ll sure want to visit during the spring. Last year in 2023 the inside was full of faux cherry blossoms. It’s located between Flatiron and Washington Square Park.

RIVERSIDE PARK

Riverside Park is a beautiful waterfront park on the Upper West Side. I haven’t had the chance to visit yet but I’ve seen so many beautiful photos here! There seem to be a lot of cherry blossoms all over!

HUNTERS POINT

Hunters Point is located in Long Island City with beautiful cherry blossoms along the river with views of Manhattan in the background. This area is ideal for sunset and I hope to make it here one of these days for photos.

NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN

I haven’t had the opportunity to visit The New York Botanical Garden yet but I can tell it has beautiful cherry blossoms! You can check the Cherry Bossom Tracker for live updates!

FLUSHING MEADOWS CORONA PARK

Located in Queens, Flushing Meadows Park you can find some of the most stunning blooms! They also host an annual Sakura Matsui Cherry Blossom Festival too!
