WHAT TO EAT IN KYOTO
Kyoto is full of great options when it comes to eating. It is known for Green Tea or Matcha and if you know me I love ANYTHING that contains those words. =) Here is a list of what to eat in Kyoto!
Floresta Donuts inside Nishiki Market
How cute is this donut though? Floresta Donuts is located inside Nishiki Market which has many options for food and shopping. The donuts are almost too cute to eat! There were many options such as a green tea frog donut but I opted for the cute kitty. You will also find Floresta Donuts in Osaka and many locations in Tokyo.
Tsuijri Honten or Saryo Tsujiri (Kyoto Station)
Gion Location: 10am-10pm
Kyoto Station: 10am-8pm
Tsujirii is the most famous matcha tea shop and parfait cafe in Kyoto. I believe this is a chain and there is also a store in Tokyo Station. I was pretty disappointed that I was unable to make it here! So please go and let me know how it is!
Itohkyuemon is famous for their green tea and lovely snacks. It’s across the street from Kyoto Station. The main store is located in Uji which is about 20 minutes from Kyoto.
I was addicted to Mister Donut! The ring donuts is a donut/mochi hybrid. It’s located inside Kyoto Station and I basically had one each morning. It’s a chain so you will find them all over Japan, especially in Tokyo.
So many great options when it comes to street food! Try everything you can because it’s all delicious! Don’t forget about the matcha ice cream either, you can find it everywhere!
Kyoto is known to have the best Kaiseki, Udon, Soba, and Ramen
Soba: Sobanomi Yoshimura: Great service! I loved that they made the noodles in front of us while sitting at the bar.
Udon: Pictured above is from a traditional udon shop I found after Monkey Park. I don’t have the name of the place but it’s located on the left corner after walking over the bridge from Monkey Park. Another good option for udon in the city is Yamamotomenzo
Kaiseki is a traditional Japanese multi-course dinner. Similar to a tasting menu from a fine dining restaurant so this can be pricey. Ryokans (Japanese style hotels) are known to serve great Kaiseki meals which you can read more about my experience in Hakone at Hakone Ginyu.
Other Restaurants:
Ippudo Nishikikoji: Famous ramen chain but a must if you haven’t had it!
Gogyo: Cheap delicious ramen
Izuu: Well known sushi restaurant popular with locals and tourists.
Nakamura: 3 Michelin star restaurant. I suggest going for lunch for a cheaper option.

Thank you for this list, I want to visit all of them! Do you think I will need to know more than basic Japanese phrases if I went to a place like Izuu? Thank you in advance!
