WHERE TO STAY IN DOURO VALLEY: LAMEGO HOTEL
From Porto, Ryan and I decided to spend three nights in Douro Valley. We took a taxi from Porto to Lamego Hotel & Life which is an hour and a half by car and 90 euros one way.
The hotel is a luxury boutique hotel, with a gorgeous pool overlooking the wineries and only a 5-minute car ride into town. The rooms are very spacious, very clean and the staff is super friendly. We stayed in the superior room with a valley view and loved it. They will help with anything you need including booking wine tours and taxis.
VISIT THE LAMEGO CATHEDRAL
We did not get a chance to visit the town and go to the cathedral but it’s stunning. Definitely go if you have time!
DOURO VALLEY RIVER CRUISE
Everyone kept telling us to do a river cruise but we never got the chance. You can also do a river cruise from Porto.
QUNITAS TO VISIT
Each day we visited two quintas which are family-owned wineres in the area. The wineries are all along the mountains so it takes some time to get to each winery. Make sure to reserve taxis from the hotel and reserve a time for pick up or ask them to wait for you. Each tasting lasted about an hour or so.
Quinta da Portela is one recommended by the hotel but I did not visit this one.
Quinta Seara D’Ordens has a gorgeous property. We tried four wines here and they do offer snacks with the tasting
Quinta Sta Eufemia has a stunning view top and a lovely port tasting.
Quinta D’Origem is considered one of the best spots with a view and they also offer a mini museum olive oil tour. I loved this tasting which included cheese.
From Douro Valley, we took a taxi back to Porto to head to Lisbon where we stayed for four nights. The train from Porto to Lisbon is 3.5 hours.
