Food is one of the main reasons why I travel. I love trying new and authentic cuisines in each foreign country I visit. There are plenty of services to find restaurants but what if I told you there’s a service to connect travelers to a home cooked meal by locals? Would you try it? I sure did! I recently had the opportunity to experience VizEat and I’m excited to share my experience!

VizEat is a service that connects travelers with locals that host events throughout Europe. It began in France but has quickly expanded throughout Europe. Think of this as the food sector of Airbnb or Uber. Hosts typically offer cooking classes, rooftop parties, wine tastings and home cooked meals.

There are many great options to choose from and it’s really simple to use! From the website or app, you can search by location and filter an event by date, price and number of guests. Once you request to book, the host will contact you within 24 hours to confirm and provide the address. I decided to try a home cooked meal by our lovely host Marina in Athens!

On our last night in Athens, we decided to try VizEat with our lovely host Marina for a Greek Meze Dinner Party. When I arrived at Marina’s home I was greeted by Marina with some lovely white wine and the delicious smell of her home cooked meal! She sure knows how to greet her guests! I was so hungry I wanted to eat it right away! Her apartment was absolutely beautiful! I loved her decoration and outdoor patio. Marina made me feel at home right away! We discussed how my current trip in Greece has been and quickly gave me lots of tips on where to visit when I come back.

Everything smelled really good and of course, it was delicious!!

  • Black Eyed Peas Salad
  • Zucchini Fitters
  • Beetroot Salad with Walnuts
  • Fava (yellow split peas)
  • Saganaki Shrimp
  • Sardines Savoro
  • Greek Yogurt

Not only did I enjoy the delicious home cooked meal but I was able to connect with locals! It’s always fun trying something new and doing non-touristy things and VizEat allowed me to do that. This is an experience I know I will not forget and plan on doing more often during my upcoming travels. Thanks, VizEat for a wonderful experience!

Ready to try your first VizEat experience? I would love to hear about your experience below!

I seriously love the idea of this! How genius! Eating local food and experiencing the entire food scene in a new place has become one of our favorite things to do traveling. I love that you can actually eat with the locals. That takes all the guessing out of it plus you get to experience a real local experience!
