A WEEKEND HIDEAWAY AT GLEN OAKS BIG SUR

Big Sur

I’m not big on spending a lot on hotels given that I don’t spend much of my time in them during my travels. However, Big Sur is so enchantingย I knew I had to find an amazing place to make my experience magical. If you’re looking into staying a weekend or a night in Big Sur you may notice hotels are quite expensive! I had a friend who suggested looking into Glen Oaks and I’m so glad she recommended this! Glen Oaks is very affordable given the luxurious, newly remodeled cabins and lodges. I wanted to experience staying in an outdoorsy accommodation, I guess you can call it “glamping”. =) Glen Oaks is surrounded by the Redwood Grove and even has the Big Sur River running throughย the property. Here’s how to prepare for your weekend hideaway at Glen Oaks Big Sur.

Before Your Visit

Check in is afterย 3pm but possibly sooner if you call to ask. My suggestion is if you do not have a lot of time, spend as much time as possible exploring Big Sur before checking in. My boyfriend and I decided to leave veryย early in the morning from San Francisco to experience the drive down to Big Sur. The drive was beautiful! There are many opportunities to stop and take photos, the Bixby Bridge was one of my favorites. Glen Oaks is located in the center of Big Sur which is great since you’re close to all attractions and restaurants.

Choosing The Right Experience

After a full day of exploring Big Sur we were ready to check into our lodge! The lodge is one of the most affordable rooms and it was super comfortable! What I really enjoyed and loved about the motor lodges is that it provided aย modern, luxury experience at an affordable price. Theย rooms have gas fireplaces which makes for a cozy stay.ย BTW all rooms have heated floors!!! I was sold on the heated floors and really wish I can get this in my own home.

COTTAGES & CABINS

The cottages and cabins are scattered individually throughout the property.ย It makes for a very peaceful and quiet experience in the woods. How amazing would it be to wake up and smell the fresh Redwood Grove and seeing beautiful lush greenery surrounding you? I know my next stay will be at one of the cabins! Most cabins have living room space and private fire pits!

  • Communal Campfire: You can purchase a smore’s kit and sit by the campfire to toast up those delicious marshmallows.
  • Walk around the Redwood Grove and visit Grand Mother Pfeiffer: The property is surrounded by the oldest and largest Redwood Grove and has theย second largest Redwood in Big Sur – Grand Mother Pfeiffer!
  • Walk along the Big Sur River: Sit by the chairs surrounding the river and read a book.
  • Take a hike around the property: There are many trails around so make sure to explore!

We stayed at Glen Oaks in the King Motor Lodge. This was, by far, the best hotel we’ve been to!! So worth the money. The room was beautiful. It had a fireplace and the heated floors were very nice! Th decor was very rustic but trendy. We loved the fact that we had our own private patio that could be closed in with a gate – 2 chairs and a table was the perfect spot to sit and share a couple beers. The sites were breathtaking and it was so serene around the property. I definitely will be coming again, but this time we may upgrade to one of the cabins!!

I agree Amy! It was the probably the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at so far, I definitely love the heated floors. Hope we both get to go back and experience the cabins!
