MT FUJI & HAKONE GUIDE

Hakone, Japan – West of Tokyo and less than a 2-hour train ride is a mountainous town that is known for its hot springs and beautiful views of Mt. Fuji. If you only have a day, a day trip is do-able but I highly recommend staying a night and experience a ryokan and all of Hakone. Here’s the perfect Mt Fuji & Hakone guide one everything you need to know.

Getting There

From Tokyo Station to Odawara station by JR > Odawara to Hakone Yumoto Station

From Shinjuku Station to Hakone Yumoto Station by Odakyu train

The train takes up to 2 hours but the express train is an hour and a half.

Onsen

Ryokan & Onsen Experience

This is a must in my opinion! If you decide to do this, head to Hakone from Tokyo early! The Hakone Yumoto Station has a carrying service if dropped off by noon for about $10 each bag. THINGS TO DO

Mt Fuji

Beautiful views on a clear day. As you can see it was a cloudy day but I was able to get a glimpse! If the Hakone Ropeway is open, this is highly recommended! Unfortunately, it was closed when I was there.

Lake Ashi

Walk along the downtown area and Lake Ashi or have lunch there.

Hakone Shrine

Owakudani Hot Spring & Black Eggs

Owakudani is a volcanic valley with active super vents and hot springs. Take the ropeway up and expect sulfur smells throughout. It’s also known as the black eggs, hard-boiled in the hot springs that turn black. Apparently eating one is said to increase longevity and add seven years to your life.
