2016 YEAR IN REVIEW
I can’t believe we’re already 20 days into the new year! It’s amazing how time flies these days but I guess it’s time to reflect on 2016 and share with you my travel highlights. Here’s my 2016 year in review!
I’ve always wanted to visit Portland so my friends and I planned a girls trip! It was a bit cold but we had a great time eating the best fried chicken of our lives!
If you don’t know already, I celebrated my 30th birthday in Japan! Can you believe that? I had always wanted to see the cherry blossoms in Japan so it was a great excuse to visit during sakura season. I explored Osaka, Kyoto, Hakone and of course Tokyo. This was probably the highlight of the year! I also started tourdelust’s Instagram! I never thought I would have grown to over 76k followers in just 10 months!! This platform has allowed me to meet so many of you and I hope to meet more of you in 2017!
Right when I came back from Japan I launched my very first blog – Tour de Lust! I’m so glad I decided to start this blog and share all my experiences with you! I hope to inspire you to live a life of adventures even if it’s just exploring your own hometown.
If you have been following me along this journey you may already know that I lived in New York for three years before moving to San Francisco. In May, work was able to send me to New York so I made sure to see friends and eat at all of my favorite restaurants!
Since growing up I have always wanted to visit Big Sur but never had the chance. Since moving to San Francisco, Ryan and I are only 3 hours away. We decided to take a weekend trip to Big Sur for July Fourth weekend and it was perfect. The California Coast is one of the prettiest drives in the world!
In July, I also checked off going on a hot air balloon ride off my bucket list! I actually never thought this was something I was going to do anytime soon but Napa offered amazing rides and it was an experience I will not forget.
September was a big travel month for me and also my one year anniversary in San Francisco! Since being back on the west coast Ryan and I decided to visit Alaska. Alaska had always been high on my list and I’m so glad I got to visit. We hiked a glacier for the very first time, something I recommend everyone doing!
I also took a solo trip to Portugal where I visited Lisbon and Sintra where I met From Here to Sunday and explored the beautiful town together. Portugal is an underrated country but has gained a lot of popularity in the last year. I also visited Javea and Valencia, Spain where I had the most authentic paella!
After my Europe trip I took a quick trip to New York (of course I did). I had to visit a few of the new foodie spots before heading back to the west coast.
I’m sure you’ve heard of the lantern festivals that happens each year in Thailand. Well, we now have them in the U.S. too! Together We Rise is a lantern festival in the Mojave Desert which happens once a year in October. To witness such an emotional and beautiful event was truly magical. Since I was in Las Vegas for this event, Ryan and I explored Death Valley too.
Lucky for me, work sent me back to New York for the third time in 2016. I decided to see Manhattan from above with FlyNyon! It was one heck of an experience! I highly recommend you doing this on your next trip to New York.
In December, Ryan and I spent a weekend in Monterey and Carmel. A small town two hours south of San Francisco along the Pacific Coast which provided us with a relaxing weekend getaway.
To end the year we decided to celebrate the New Year in Tulum, Mexico!! I usually don’t do much for New Year’s but we decided to make it a big one by relaxing in the Caribbean Sea! I think I may just spend every New Year abroad. =)
I want to thank all of you for reading and following my journey this year. I’m so excited to see what 2017 brings and excited to continue to share my travel experiences with you!
